Bashaw Valley Farm began in 1981 which started as a dairy farm. In 1995, after
several years of dairying and expanding our greenhouse and berry operations,  we
sold our dairy herd and  began our beef operation. We started with Simmental cross
cows and then shifted to mostly Angus beef. We started out as a cow-calf operation,
which means we sold our calves at about 7 months of age as feeder calves which
were then fed out in feedlots. After reading about how healthy grass fed beef was for
you and attending several conferences on grass-fed operations we decided to give
this venture a try. The main reason that encouraged us to change practices was the
reduction of the carbon foot print by eliminating corn from the animals diet. Corn
production is one of the biggest users of fossil fuel's on this earth. In 2009 we decided
to keep all our calves and  market our Grass-fed Angus beef directly to the consumer.
In 2010 we  joined the Wisconsin Grass-Fed Beef Cooperative which allows us to
market some of our beef to restaurants and stores in the Madison and Milwaukee area.
We now offer individual cuts of frozen meat year-round at our retail store. We also sell
beef by the 1/4, 1/2 or whole. When buying larger quantities you the customer are able
to get your cuts custom packaged to your own specifications of size, weight and type
of packaging. All our retail beef is processed by Almena Meat Company which does a
very good job and is a state inspected plant.
Our calves are raised on their mother's milk and grass pastures. All our beef are
rotationally pasture grazed during the summer and fed alfalfa grass hay during the
winter months. Fresh air, sunshine and exercise is the number one ingredient to a
healthier animal, we use no growth regulators or hormones, and none of our beef are
raised in confinement. So give some of our lean Grass-fed Angus beef a try today, for
a healthier you.
